If you’re one of the people who is experiencing “hair loss” problem and you’re sick of disposing your hair on the floor, pillow or even when it clogs the bathroom drain due to your hair health problem such as hair loss and hair thinning and sometimes it even ruins your confidence. Of course, these problems it’s not just you that’s experiencing it. Therefore, this article will help you to understand the causes of hair loss and treatments that will help you regain your confidence.

What causes hair loss?

hair loss

We, humans, have between 90,000-140,000 hair strands that vary from person to person. Human hair can fall from 50 to 100 strands a day and up to 200 strands on the day of shampooing which is not considered a hair loss condition in any way. However, the hair doesn’t look thinner even though the hair loss is so much because more than 90% of the hair is still in growing phase (Anagen Phase) and only 10% of the hair loss is in the phase where the hair has already stopped growing (Telogen phase). In other words, the hair that is lost is the hair that is fully grown and can’t grow more.

In the case that the hair loss is more than 100-200 hair strands per day continuously for a long time until it’s noticeably thin then this is considered different because you may be experiencing hair loss and hair thinning conditions.

Causes of excessive hair loss

Hereditary hair loss

Hereditary hair loss is more than 95% that occurs in males but it also can occur in females as well. The principle that hereditary hair loss is caused by the increased enzyme 5-alpha reductase on the scalp in the forehead and middle of the head and this enzyme is responsible for changing the hormone testosterone (Testosterone) to the hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which the hormone DHT is a hormone that makes the hair follicles on the scalp smaller and also makes the new hair that grows look thinner and shorter as well. Therefore causing the symptoms of hair loss and thinning hair eventually.

Hair loss from certain diseases

Diseases are considered as one of the reasons that causes hair loss problems. Whether it is a disease that directly affects the hair, such as alopecia areata, fungus on the scalp, or physical diseases that also affect the hair, such as autoimmune diseases, syphilis, hyperthyroidism including mental health problems such as stress or trichotillomania, etc., which can be recovered from treating the existing diseases.

Hormonal hair loss

In the case of pregnancy, a woman’s estrogen levels will increase to help strengthen the mother’s body for the pregnancy and the healthy growth of the baby after giving birth, the estrogen level will be returned to normal levels as before. This short-term decrease in the hormone may lead to hair loss, but the symptoms will return to normal in 3-6 months.

Hair loss from malnutrition

If hair is like a tree and the body is like soil, nutrients are like fertilizers that the body needs to use for the complete functioning of the body’s systems. When the body is not getting enough nutrients, it will affect the hair as well. The solution is to eat enough food to meet the body’s needs.

Hair loss caused by some behaviours

In this case, the cause of hair loss is caused by your own behavior, whether it’s curling, straightening with heat, or hair coloring with chemicals, including tying hair too tight which causes the hair to be damaged and fall as well. If these behaviors can be adjusted, hair loss symptoms will gradually disappear on their own.

Hair loss treatment

There are different methods of hair loss treatment depending on the severity of the hair loss.

Natural treatment for hair loss

If the hair loss is not very severe, hair loss treatments such as some behavior modifications can help alleviate the hair loss symptoms, such as:

  1. Wash your hair the right way not too harsh on your hair
  2. Consume enough food to meet the needs of the body.
  3. Don’t smoke, and avoid drinking alcohol.
  4. Make sure to exercise regularly.

Medical treatment for hair loss

Medical treatment is another effective method because it is evaluated and treated by a specialist who has different treatment methods depending on the severity of the hair loss.

  • Treatment with oral/ topical medications such as minoxidil and finasteride, which may be side effects on decreased sexual performance.
  • PRP treatment or treatment with injection of platelets of a patient to add nutrients to the hair. For effective results, this must be done regularly, also the price is quite high.
  • LLLT laser treatment to stimulate hair regrowth.
  • Treating with the “hair transplant” method is for those who don’t have hair roots anymore.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a scalp treatment and hair loss reduction like Kemist Labs Botanical Derived Scalp Serum?

It contains ingredients that inhibit the enzyme 5-α-reductase, which is one of the causes of hair loss and hair thinning because it’s a production of the hormone DHT.  There are natural extracts from red clover and Zinc PCA, two of which are found in Kemist Labs Botanical Derived Scalp Serum which also help restore hair deeply at the cellular level, reduce hair loss, and strengthen hair roots as well.

Summary of hair loss problems

Human hair will fall 50-100 strands a day, and up to 200 on the day of shampooing. However, in the case of hair loss more than that for a long time, until the hair began to look thinner, it may be due to a genetic cause that increases the enzyme 5-alpha reductase in the scalp, forehead, and middle of the head converting testosterone to DHT hormone which makes the hair follicles smaller and the new hair grows to look thin and short.

Moreover, it can also be caused by various diseases that affect the hair both directly and indirectly or sudden hormonal changes in pregnant women, malnutrition including from the behavior that harms the hair as well which all of these can be treated with natural methods such as behavior modification, reducing hair damage, and looking after the hair with nourishing serum or with medical treatments such as taking medicine, applying medical lotion/spray to the scalp, treating with concentrated platelet injections PRP, doing LLLT lasers and permanent hair transplants are also available.
